American restaurateurs shamelessly slap the term "bistro" on everything from awful chain outlets to places with $55 entrees. The French reserve the term for modest neighborhood spots like Petit Robert Bistro that unpretentiously serve delicious, relatively simple meals at workingman's prices. "Little Bob's" hits the bistro bull's-eye squarely with fine traditional Parisian fare, brusque but professional service, and nary an entrée over $20. C'est le luxe sans le luxe.

Great Skills

In the 1970s, it was common for chefs in France to kill time (because customers would not sit down before 8 p.m.) by carving vegetables. The potato chain is a complex technique, but a sure way to impress your friends. The Daisy was shown to me by my coworker at Maxim's Yukata Ishinabe

ANNIVERSARY

Happy 5th Anniversary PRB!

Chef Jacky has just been awarded "Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole" medal by the French Government, in  time to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the opening of our Petit Robert Bistro on Kenmore Square. Currently, there are three Petit Robert Bistros, one being negotiated at Felt, and a new concept, "Chez Jacky," about to open in the next few months. The state of Petit Robert Bistro has never been better thanks to our loyal customers.
                   "Chez Jacky" Brighton
Like the small neighborhood bistros of his childhood, Chez Jacky will serve communal-style, casual fare for families, students, and anyone else who wants a lively ambience without pretense. Dishes will be served family-style and hot from the kitchen, all the appetizers will be $6.75 and the entrees $14.75, and European craft beers and carafe wines will add to the friendly, unstuffy fun.  The authentic French fare will include Onion Soup with Cheesy Crouton; Loic's Famous Meatballs with Spaghetti (yes, the French eat pasta), Steak Tartare, Lamb Stew, and Mousse Chocolat. This will be French food for all, as though you're invited into a French kitchen!

Matthew Kemp

One of our first servers at PRB was Matthew Kemp. Matthew soon became one of our most reliable employees. Today, five years later, he is still with us and managing PRB Kenmore. We could not have done it without Matthew, and our crew of   very valuable people.
Thank you, all!
