Jacky Robert, of the Maison Robert family name, is opening his own bistro, Petit Robert Bistro, at 468 Commonwealth Ave., formerly Il Bico, in the square.

Robert left his consulting post at Pierrot on Beacon Hill to focus on his own project, a two-level restaurant that will serve bistro fare such as tripe and sweetbreads, and have a pastry bar with desserts, tea and coffee on the lower level.

The mostly cosmetic changes to the brick-wall and tile-floor interior will create a 100-seat bistro (50 seats on each level). White linen, candles and a working fireplace will be part of the finished product.

Robert has partnered with Loic

LeGarrec, a restaurateur who was food and beverage manager at Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham, on Cape Cod, during Robert's tenure two years ago. LeGarrec was a server at Locke-Ober for two years. He is from Brittany, France.

The bistro is slated to open April 1.
